Gnat Pass (Cassiar Hwy), BC to Dease Lake, BC
12 miles

Short day but felt even shorter because it was mostly downhill.  We
woke really to really cold weather this morning.  It really felt like we
were in the Himalayas about to embark on Mt. Everset.  Being on top of a
pass usually means it will be windy.  All the mud that has been caked
to our bikes have dried up so the dust particles seem to be getting
everywhere.  We packed up as fast as we could and descended into town.

For the last few days, we been semi-riding with a group of college kids
from University of Texas in Austin.  The ride is called Texas 4000 and
it's an annual event held by this school to raise money for cancer.
They ride from Austin, TX to Anchorage, AK with a distance of, you
guessed it, 4000 miles.  They have a total of 38 students going.  We should
be tagging along for at least the next couple of days.  They have to be
Anchorage by Aug. 10th.  Their website is www.texas4000.org.

We made town, grabbed a burger, went grocery shopping, and fixed our
bikes.  It has been one of our most productive rest days thus far.

I heard some noises around our campsite last night.  Something sounded
like it was walking around the tent.  I thought it was a bear, but who
knows.  I am still here not mauled up.

Good night.

1 mile at a time...
