Dease Lake, BC to Jade City, BC
71 miles

They have free coffee here at Jade City so it was worth the extra
distance. This city, more of a stop, is known for jade ornaments and
jewelery as well as other small items made from this stone. They mine and
design their own items for sale. That's even their slogan.

Not only do they offer coffee for free but the campsite as well. Not
that finding a free campsite along side the road on Cassiar is hard but
none have running water. Filtering water is work I like to avoid
although it does produce some of the best tasting water. No chemicals or
anything, just pure clean, cold, mountain water.

I won't go into details about how beautiful the scenery was today.
Unless seen for yourself, you'll never fully appreciate this kind of
nature. Please put Stewart Cassiar Hwy 37 on life's check list. It will be
amazing.

We saw several black bears today and one managed to scare us pretty
good. Because their dark in color and fairly small, they tend to blend in
with shadows and in bushes along the road. We road up on a bear not
knowing it was right next to us. All of a sudden it grunted a little and
we heard it take off. It happened so quick, we didn't know if it was
coming towards us or running away. It ran away like every other time.
Our hearts got a little jolt from it. We were able to laugh it off
but now we're keeping our guards up. In all reality, they will run away
but I guess watching too much National Geographics can cause you to be
paranoid.

We have about a 1000 miles to Anchorage. It's still a lot of pavement
to cover but light can definately be seen at the end of the tunnel and
it doesn't seem like a train

Good night.
